And I am BACK!
The last photoblog entry here was back in May, and even those were old photos that I reprocessed. Nowadays baby photography is all I have the time for (haha). Until yesterday.
I'm a huge fan of the UAAP Cheerdance Competition, which, if you also follow it, has been dominated lately by my beloved UP Pep Squad. I've been watching the CDC live since 2000, only missing out in 2001 (due to an out-of-town class trip) and 2004 (stay in the US). I watch it everytime I can because I love the drumbeats, I love the tension, I love the school spirit that's at the ultimate point during the CDC. It's also the UP Pep Squad's way of making up for the Maroons basketball team's dismal performance, year in and out. I'm telling you, THERE IS NO EVENT IN THE UAAP LIKE THE CHEERDANCE COMPETITION, basketball finals included. The energy is just unmatched. And the attendance too. Scalpers are having a heyday when it's CDC time, and who can blame them? The demand for tickets is unbelievable. (UAAP attendance record was set during a CDC event.)
This year I've been thinking of getting a photographer's pass to shoot the UAAP CDC. I wanted to have some practice with a similar event, and what do you know, someone posted on Facebook about Bulacan State University's Cheerdance Competition. Then it jived well with my schedule. Perfect, right?
As expected, the venue (BSU Gym) was jampacked, I couldn't get inside. I needed a pass or a letter from faculty or something. Being an outsider, I didn't know who to call to ask help from. Then in a fortunate turn of events, I saw a familiar face : that of a Facebook friend who I recognized as a BSU professor. I didn't know her personally but I summoned all my courage to casually ask her, "Ma'am, papasok naman po." As fate would have it, she had an extra pass! It was destiny. Haha. THANK YOU SO MUCH, Ms. Cynthia Belen. Much appreciated. =)
I missed the first team perform, and essentially the second team, as I was still trying to find a spot to shoot from. Anyway, by the time the third college team entered the stage, I was ready.
Here are my favorite captures...
Congratulations to the College of Home Economics "Tigers" Pep Squad! Without a doubt, standing out. It was virtually game over when they performed. Congratulations to the other teams as well for the gallant effort. I have to say I enjoyed the experience even if I'm used to the level of the UAAP CDC. The BSU version ain't bad at all, and here's hoping the teams continue to improve to get to that next level. I have every reason to believe that they would.
Thanks for the fun experience! It was awesome. =)
