It was January 2010 when The Killers were first slated to perform in Manila. About a week or two before the date, the gig got cancelled. A few months later, frontman Brandon Flowers launched his solo album. At that point, I thought The Killers wouldn't be coming to Manila at all, much like what happened to the ill-fated Oasis concert back in 2001 (or was it 2002?). Well, what do you know, The Killers pushed through after all. And it was a concert I wouldn't miss. As Brandon told their Filipino fans during the show, "Thank you for not giving up on us."
I got a patron ticket (I went solo because my sister wouldn't pay for her own ticket) and took my chances in "smuggling" in my Canon EOS M with its 22mm lens and my 135mm L with an adapter. The EOS M sure looked small so I was confident the security guards would allow me to shoot with it. I still didn't want to risk bringing a regular-sized DSLR, just imagine if it wasn't allowed and I had to leave it at the car.
I shot from about about a hundred feet away from the stage, in front of me a sea of hand-raising, device-recording fans who also want their own shots. To compound matters, the EOS M's autofocus system struggled big time with the bright lights, causing me to miss shots because of the delay in focusing. I decided to go manual focusing and trust my eyes, after all I've been using them longer than the camera's sensor.
Here are my sniper photos from The Killers Live in Manila...
A heck of a show! The Killers totally slayed it! Thanks for coming to Manila!
And thank YOU for viewing. Next concert : Two Door Cinema Club, November 26. Anyone, if you know any connections, please help me get a photographer's pass. :)
